Another BMW scam for you... Many people are having problems with the exterior lights on the vehicles. More specifically, the tail lights have a defect thus creating a short which then fries your ground wire. What does this mean? I was told today by a BMW Service manager that BMW puts too many lights in their vehicles and that the lights and housing create too much heat eventually resulting in the meltdown. This happened to my girlfriends car as well as my brother's girlfriend telling me that this is a common problem. I have been quoted between 600 and 1200$ for the repair work which included quite a bit of labor. My brother and I purchased the parts for a little over $100 and the repair took us all of a half hour.

BMW should stand behind their product and repair these defective lights at no cost to the consumer. The estimates for the repair are insulting. DO NOT BE TAKEN!
The same service manager told me about a retrofit that adds an additional ground to the light assembly so obviously they are more than aware of the defect. He also mentioned that at 6 years old the BMW is an old car and that problems are common. I suppose this means that consumers should only expect to get 5 to 6 years out of their ultimate driving machine. What a load of crap. Do not pay for this repair, stand up and fight.
