I had the misfortune of travelling to Cape Verde with MRI and putting money on a 1 bed apt.in the Vila Verde resort. It cost 103,000 and the rep, a Mr. Daniel Leigh, told us that the whole lot would be completed for 110,000, including legal fees and furniture pack.

Several weeks after coming back, Mr. Leigh rang to say my apt. Had been booked already and that I couldn't have it, and that I should pick another one. I asked how this happened as we had specifically asked if it was available. He rang the developer on the spot and confirmed it was available. But now he was telling me that it was a mistake. So after travelling all that way I wasn't to have the apt. I wanted.

Needless to say I was annoyed and angry to which Mr. Leigh responded, " lets not be Irish about this!" I was stunned by this racist remark. I told him this and told him to sort out the mess with the apt. As I wanted that one and nothing else.

Some weeks after I had come back from Cape Verde I told my brother about the resort. He then decided to buy an apt. Too, through a local agent here in Dublin for 108,000. Smelling a rat after my call from the racist Mr. Leigh I rang my brother to ask which unit he had bought, and yes you've guessed it, it was mine! Mr. Leigh had sold it for an extra 5,000 and thought he could fob me off with the offer of a different unit! But the fool had sold it to my brother and the agent my brother bought from happened to be a friend of ours.

We went to MRI with this problem and after several calls to several different people, my brother was offered another unit and we were promised 4 free trips for my brother and I and both wives to anywhere MRI had property for sale. We decided to hold the trips until our units were ready for inspection. Last year when we enquired about the trips we were told that they had never promised them and we couldn't have them.

As well as this, the finishing costs of the units went from 110,000 to 135,000. So Mr. Leigh was out by an astonishing 23%! Also the solicitors we were encouraged to use have not answered one single concern of ours in over three years and only contacted us when the developer required payment. Yet they want 1,000 in fees.

These apartments are now being sold for far less than the original price, yet up to December I was in contact with Mr. David Jenns from MRI, (I posed as someone interested in Vila Verde), who told me that a 1bed apt. Was worth 150,000!!

After going through most of MRI's incompetent staff I ended up " dealing " with Wendy Mc Anthony, who informed me that as head of aftersales, she would be dealing with my problem. That was the one and only email I received from Wendy. I sent her a few emails asking when my problem would be resolved but heard nothing back. I was informed later that she was now operating under the name of DCC properties.

Daragh McAnthony is Irish, yet has absolutley no qualms about Irish clients being the victim of racial comments and no qualms about having his staff give out false information in order to make sales.

Avoid these people at all costs. They are liars and offer no service to clients. We are trying to get Irish people together to share their experiences of dealing with MRI with a view of going to RTE radio to highlight the issue. Please let me know if you would be interested in getting involved.
