Beware Threatened with legal action with personal information, yet refuse to give any documentation

I received a call today from American Credit Services - it showed up on called ID as a local number but their actual phone number he gave me was 213-232-4396. I believe the gentlemans name was "Steve" but he had a thick middle eastern accent so I am not sure. He said that a company (Quick Cash) was pressing charges against me for a number of reasons - the one that I caught was 'fraudulent use of a checking account'- and that he would transfer me to his lawyer so that I could get more information. I insisted on receiving documentation of the charges being pressed. He said that they had emailed me the information previously but that I "probably deleted it thinking it was an offer for money." I replied that I had to have a copy of whatever charges were being pressed before I would be willing to move forward.

He spoke fast the entire time, attempting to get me to agree to whatever they were offering, then passed me over to the "Lawyer" Alan Register. This lawyer guy told me what charges they were pressing against me and again I insisted that it was the first I had heard and I wanted to know what the specific company that had something against me was as well as that I needed to have paperwork mailed to me before I would get my attorney involved. He threatened to tell my work about the charges they were pressing and continued badgering me to confirm my personal information. Somehow they have my name, email address, social security number, and address on file. Finally after I continued to say I needed paperwork he hung up on me.

I have filed a police report in my town about this since I am concerned about identity theft now that I know scam artists have my personal information. The officer I spoke to said I did the right thing in not revealing my info and insisting on knowing who they are working for, why they are calling, and that I have the right to be sent paperwork to my address about this topic. They have no right to threaten anyone over the phone, and we as consumers have to be diligent about requiring paperwork and knowing what company we are dealing with.
