Check scam, they send a fake check for $4500.00 and want you to moneygram them $2980.00 for "taxes" on bigger winnings, Halifax

We received a fake check in the amount of $4500.00 in the mail from Veridian Group Inc, a division of Citi Financial Services with the notification that we had won $450,000.00 and that the check should be used to pay off the Non Resident Government Service Tax (GST). That taxes must be paid in full before winnings can be legally released. Then you are told to telephone Brian Smith at 1-905-995-6776 Ext. 201 monday to friday for further instructions on how to claim your winnings, then it stated: please do not act on this notice until you speak to your agent. This was signed by Tim Phillips (Promotional Manager).
I googled this and found a report already filed but with slightly different information so I thought it was a good idea to give you the information that was on the letter we received. We also copied the check on our copier and it did NOT have the "void" marks of an authentic check. If it sounds too good to be true... It is.
