On 2-1-03, I went to Westland Ford Hyundai after shopping all day for cars, and being told that I needed a co-signer. The salesman, Brian Henry, told me that he could get the deal done.

After speaking with the finance manager, and signing the contract, I drove home with a 2001 Dodge Stratus. On 2-7-03, I was involved in an auto accident, and the car was taken to a body shop. I had spoken with people at the dealership all month.

On March 1, I called them and asked them for the plates so I could pick up my car from the body shop. The temporary tags were to expire on 3-2-03. The finance manager tells me that he has not got the car financed, and I need a co-signer.

I faxed a letter to the general manager saying that the contract states that "if the seller is not able to arrange financing within the terms disclosed, then the seller must, within 7 days of the date of sale, mail notice to the purchaser that he has not been able to arrange financing"... I had already sold my old car, and this was a MONTH after the contract was signed. On 3-1-03, I mailed the payment for the car via certified mail to them and again asked for the license plates. They refused.

I called my personal injury attorney and he advised me to "make peace" with them, so I agreed to have my son-in-law co-sign for me, and faxed them his credit info. (I had SPECIFICALLY said I didn't want a co-signer when I originally went in there) On 3-6-03, the finance manager called me and said he had the financing all arranged and asked us to come in on 3-7-03 to sign the papers. I decided to tape the conversation and put the recorder in my purse.

I just sent a complaint to the DMV so that I can get my license plates so I can pick up the car from the body shop. I don't know how this is going to turn out, but this dealer is a huge rip off. I sure hope that the DMV can help me.
