Mystery Shopper Check for $3,650 Requires Western Union Transfer

I received a check for $3,650 with a letter saying I was selected to participate in a paid Consumer Research Program as a "Mystery Shopper". The letter discusses different types of assignments with retail stores and Western Union. I am asked to cash the check and keep $300 for my pay, $100 for funds for shopping and $150 for service charges, and to transfer $3,100 to them via Western Union.

Obviously, the check is counterfeit, so my bank will make me responsible for covering it, and they get their $3,100 free and clear!
