Haband - Haband Online
Provided a rebate check that once endorsed allowed another company to bill me for a service I did not need A ripoff scheme

I purchased clothing from Haband.com (http://www.haband.com). As you can see Haband dot come IS NOT a secure site. I would not recommend buying from a non secure site and I did not notice this since I have purchased from their catalog before.

The clothing met my expectations and then I received a "rebate" check from Haband for $6.00 I endorsed the back of the check and put it in my bank. I can do that without using my reading glasses.

On my next statement from American express I noticed a charge for $139.99. Below is an exact copy from my AMEX statement.

I immediately disputed the charge with AMEX and contacted the company below. The customer service manager was very rude. She explained that when I cashed the Haband check the print in the box stated that I agreed to and authorized their Purchase protector plan. I told her that is illegal (in NJ all contracts have to be on the front of agreements/contracts etc.), deceptive and a rip off between Haband and Buyers Advantage. I asked what the Purchase Protector plan was for. Get his... Appliances in my home. Extended warranties. I would never buy this and Haband does not sell appliances. Buyers Advantage did remove my membership (DUH?) since AMEX would never allow a company to do this to their members. I am Thankful I used American Express.

I tried contacting Haband but all I get is voice mail. So I'm reporting this rip off/deceptive business practice to Haband, Golden Gate Capital (the new owners of Haband) as well as the NJ Better Business Office, Office of Consumer Affairs, NJ State Attorney General as well as the same offices in the State of Connecticut. I am fully aware of "caveat emptor" but this is ludicrous. Buyers Advantage is banking that Haband customers who receive a rebate check will not read the fine print. I will be sending the Chairman of Buyers Advantage a letter as well.
