Rip Off Failed - Shame on them

Miscellaneous

I received a letter and a check for $3,870.00. I read the letter, no fine print. Sure sounded good to someone on SS right at Christmas with lots of grand and great-grandchildren.

But I remember the old saying "if it sounds to good to be true it probably is".

I was instructed to cash the check, keep $300, spend $51 at one of the stores listed. If I were those stores I would be upset about them using my company name to commit fraud. The stores were Staples, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, J.C. Penny, Lowes, Wallgreens, K-Mart or Sears. What ever I bought with the $51 I could keep.

I was to draw out $3,320.00 along with $199.00 for charges and send this money to one of 5 people listed on the letter by Western Union or Money Gram.

I decided to check it out as best I could before doing anythng! I used the Yellow Pages on line and looked up the bank. Two branches are listed in Texas, but they have no rating at all.

Then I searched for the company in Newark, NJ but got zero result. So I did a reverse search by their phone number. The number came up but to 2 different individuals.

I was stumped as to what to do next. These people should not be allowed to do this sort of thing, I'm not sure what they are trying to accomplish unless it's a way for them to launder money?

I did a web search and found 2 others that the same thing happened to, so I decided to:

1. Write a complaint
2. Notify my local television news so they can get it out to the public
