We signed consulting contract at a specified hourly rate then they dropped the rate by $10 per hour (after I had already quit my former job)

I was employed as an IT Project Management Consultant. CareWorks Technologies recruited me to be a consultant on assignment at a major bank. I interviewed for and won the assignment with the client.

CareWorks Technologies and I both signed an employment contract for this specific engagement, and it specified the hourly rate I was to be paid and my start date.

Everything was set, so I turned in my notice to quit my former job to take this one.

A few days before I started with CareWorks Technologies they called and said that they were going to drop my wages by $10 per hour. This is after we had a signed contract and after I had quit my job.

Their said the customer was paying less for the position than they thought. Why would they sign a contract with me if they didn't know how much the position paid?

Instead of having integrity and standing behind their written promise, they made me take the entire hit. I pleaded for them to at least share the hit since they can absorb a $10/hour loss as a company more than I can as an individual. They had no mercy, no integrity, no commitment to do what was right and ethical.

They said you can take the assignment at $10 less per hour than what we agreed to in writing or go find another job. I had to take the job since I had quit my former job and have a family to support.

It is a shame that CareWorks Technologies doesn't see the need to keep their word. Legally they are covered because it is at will employment. Nonetheless, it is a shame that they don't rise up to the minimal standard of keeping their word, especially their written word, even if it means they have to take a financial hit.

Unless this is rectified, I personally will never work for CareWorks Technologies again. Their name is a misnomer; they don't care about people or integrity, the only thing they care about is the bottom line.
