Payment for item not ordered

My orthopaedic shoes were paid by insurance. Not until I tried on the shoes was I aware of any 'inserts'; and that was only when the gentleman told me to change 'these inserts' evetry month. I was not told there was an extra charge for them nor asked did I want them. Upon receiving several billings for $274.12, my son inquired by phone what the charge was for. They said the insurance paid for the shoes but I owed for the inserts (which consist of 6 pieces of foam rubber). My son explained the situation and 'Mike' said they would cancel the charge and was sorry for the misunderstanding The bills kept coming and when my son called again they said they didn't remember his first call. I wrote again and offered to return the inserts. I told them I have no assets whatever, all I have is my Social Securitry. Their reply to that was to turn me over to a collection agency..
