Froze my bank account, while I was making payments to them, and they were accepting them anyway

I had received a letter about a debt. I called them to make arrangements. They requested income verification. That was faxed to them the next day.
They were supposed to get back to me with a payment arrangement, they never did. I decided to make payments on my own, so as to avoid further collection issues with them. I have my bank statements for verification.
I went to my bank today and discovered they froze my account. Now I cannot pay any bills. When I called them about this, they were very rude and told me they could not discuss it with me. I don't understand that, it is my account, if they can't discuss with me, then who?

I had clearly explained to them that my husband had recently had 4 strokes and was no longer able to work. It caused me to fall back on my bills. I had every intention of paying all of my bills, but I needed time to adjust to being to only breadwinner in my home.

I need to get help immediately or I will wind up in foreclosure due to this. I don't know where to turn.
