Checks sent from this company are counterfeit! Do not get sucked into this mess! Canada

My husband and I are victims of fraud. We received a letter from a company called Global Trust Inc.indicating we had won $520,000 and enclosed was a check for $3,850 to deposit and send back to receive the winnings. My husband called Erica Banks, who's phone number was in the letter, and everything sounded legit. So we deposited the check and waited 6 days for the check to clear. We confirmed with the bank that the check cleared and withdrew the money and sent a money gram to a "claims agent" that would process and send our winnings.

When we called Erica Banks back to confirm the money gram, she then wanted an additional $900 to send the check Fedex. We told her we didn't have the money and she said she would talk to her supervisor and call us back.

By this point we were skeptical because we didn't believe that if we really won this money they would be asking us to send them some of our own money. We never heard back from her and 3 days after sending the money gram for $3,850, my husbands bank called to inform him that his account was overdrawn $3,850.

We were devistated and now we are responsible for paying back that amount.

We have filed a police report and are waiting to hear from investigators, but I highly doubt they can do anything because these people are hard to trace.
These people are sick and obviously don't care that they are ruining the lives of others. Please PLEASE don't believe these letters that companies send like I did.
It will mess up your life.

I read somewhere on the internet that if you really won a lottery or sweepstakes, they wouldn't ask you to send them any money they would send you the check for the full amount and the name of the lottery/sweepstakes will be printed on the check.

The only thing I can do from this point is never fall into a scam like this again and warn others like I'm doing now.
