Duped By Deceptive Tactics

In January of Ron OConnor of Affordable Contracting Solutions who worked for Thompson Thompson & O'Neal visited our home and wrote up a contract to put in an emergency exit door from our son's bedroom onto a deck that was to be built along the front of the house extending to the side.

Also on the project, was to remove door in hallway into my son's room and clear the jam to open for better access. They would remove outside corner for better maneuverabiliry and install new interior casing on the new entry door and drywall.

My son has Muscular Dystrophy and is Developmentally Disabled and is on the MRDD waiver program. The funds to pay for this project would be paid for through the MRDD State waiver program. The amount contracted was $6,988.00.

In April of '08 TTO and Affordable Contracting Solutions received a check from the State of Ohio for that amount and work should have begun.
We began making calls to TTO about the work, however were transferred to the Maumee office and a voice mail.

In May, we received a call from Gary Eber stating that Ron OConnor and his business partner Mike has been fired for stealing money from the company. The Maumee office had been closed; Dale had turned the company over to Gary and Gary's son Bob Eber. We were informed that Gary and Bob would be handling the job.

Shortly thereafter, a "deckman" came to our home and again took measurements and "would get back with us." Weeks went by without one word from TTO. We again were on the phone with either Bob or Gary Eber and heard sob story after sob story.

People would come out, take measurements and leave, never to be seen or heard from again.

Bob Eber finally sent two of his 'finest' out to install a new sillplate, which we had been told was rotted on the side of the house where the deck and door were to be installed. That was $500.00 from our personal account. Little did we know that the entire floor next to the wall was rotted out as well, until the last Saturday in July when TTO finally got around to sending unlicensed workers out to put in the door and do the inside work. That took 12 hours!

No permits were ever pulled to do the work, as was written in the original contract! And Dale Eber, who had taken back the company from Gary and son Bob Eber, who he had fired, does not have a contractors license.

When the opening for the door was cut, it was found that the floor was rotted, so we called in the contractor who is putting up the siding and he and his son came out and put in the floor. When he pulled up the rotted floor, the sillplate in my son's room fell out onto the ground! It had never been nailed into place because of the rotted floor.

Two days later, TTO came out and looked at the shoddy work they had accomplished in hanging the door. My husband and Dennis, the flunky for Dale Eber, went under the house, via the crawl space, to look at the sill plate at the other side and it isn't even touching the foundation! This is Affordable Waterproofing, owned by Gary and Bob Eber.

So now we're at another standstill with Thompson Thompson & O'Neal. We cannot trust them to do quality work. We want our money back and to hire our own licensed contractor. If not, we will go to every television station in Toledo and tell our story, plus turn them in to the BBB, and the State on Ohio for absconding with the state's funds to pay for the work.

From what I undertand from 'employees' of TTO, Dale, Gary, and Bob Eber are in so much trouble with customers for shoddy work they have done, uncompleted work, and work not even started. They have lied to customers, taken money from customers and never done any work, or started work and never finished.

Please be aware. These are con artists who will turn on you and each other at a moment's notice. They will promise you the moon and take your money and run. Do not trust any of them.
