Fidelity Reader Services' Infidelity

Miscellaneous

On April 7th I was approached at my doorstep by a young upbeat male salesman who told me about his job at Fidelity Reader Services and how they were offering him a college scholarship if he sold so many subscriptions of magazines. I was uninterested in the magazine but thought it to be noble of him to be doing this to further his education. This would be the first and last time that I have ever been duped and bought anything from a traveling salesperson.

He went through a list of magazines that I could order and how many points they were worth towards his goal. I chose an Acoustic Guitar magazine, being that was my only interest in the selection, and paid him, ten dollars cash, 60 dollars in a check form, for a one year subscription.

I left home for military duties for two months and when I arrived home I had no mail or magazines from Fidelity Reader Services. I kept the receipt that was given to me by the salesman (Andres Feliciano) and called the number that was at the top of the receipt... Just today almost 4 months later.

The customer service representative told me that there was a letter coming out in the mail right now explaining the reason that I haven't received any magazines and that after the letter arrived the first magazine should be here in one to three weeks. I then realized that the company is not responsible for anything after one hundred and twenty days (says so on the receipt) and that the letter that they were sending would arrive just after that mark. I called back and the same person that I spoke to the first time answered the phone again! I asked to speak to his supervisor and he said he was the supervisor. At this point I asked for a refund before the 120 day mark and he told me that there was nothing that he could do until I received that letter in the mail. At this point I told him that I was going to contact an attorney and he took it as a threat and hung up on me. I called back and he answered the phone again!
He then told me that my phone number was programmed to go straight to him because of my "threat" to report the company and have them shut down. He hung up on me for a second or third time to which I called back on my fiances phone and AGAIN he answered the phone. The supervisors name is Matthew Datson.

This is when I looked up the company online and found all of these other complaints through several different websites and also news stories about certain salesmen for Fidelity Reader Services that have been put in jail for robbery, theft, and rape. I personally am only out seventy dollars and am glad that they didn't take any more than that but I don't want anyone else to be duped this way or to get hurt by any salesmen.
