Lake in the Woods Sold me a Luxury Hell Hole

My roomate directed me to this site about 18 months too late! Here is what happened!

In May of I was referred to Lake in the Woods apartments because of the great specials they gave to airline employees. I was a Flight Attendant at the time with horrid early day and night hours. Needless to say, I wanted somewhere safe to live.

LTW boasted a "gated community" with a golf course, tennis courts, two swimming pools, a clubhouse, and other special amenities.

The showed me an apartment in the Tower. The Tower houses studio and one bedroom apartments and stands 7 floors high. The apartment that would be mine was not available, so a comparable (or so I thought) was shown. The price was affordable and it was in close proximity to both work and school. So, I signed up. BAD MOVE

Within the first few months I discovered the following

Broken gates and Security waving everyone and their brother on in Bad lighting in common areas and in the parking lot Crack (drugs) found in baggies on the floor, along with beer bottles strewn all over the lawn after a partying night of my neighboors I was accosted on several occasions by menancing drug dealers Lights would shine in my window and names were called if I asked someone to turn down music at 1 A.M.

In the winter, the problems persisted:

No heat No hot water Toilets leaked down 7 floors, so I had piss water on my carpet Garbage in the halls piled up in the Fireescape stairs One of two entrances into the buiding (which was directly below my apartment) NEVER LOCKED. The main entrance rarley did either Bugs in my apartment I was verbally abused by the apartment manager when I confronted her on these issues

So in novemeber, i began withholding my rent

To make a long story a bit shorter, I was taken to court. The lawyer for LTW called me an "idiot with no proof and I would never win my case" Unfortunately, I did my homework and KNEW of the laws being broken in this complex. Doubly unfortunate-75 cases on the docket that day pertained to problems at LTW and the Judge was very familiar with Brookline. I went back to court again and before my third appearance, which would decide the case for good, the lawyer called me to settle out of court.

Had I know this place was this horrible, I would have never settled. I basically lived there rent free for four months. However, the problems I endured could not be monetarily comforted.

I urge anyone reading this: If you are thinking of renting there, do not. The complex is unsafe and dirty. If you do live there in Ypsi, please withhold your rent from them.information is available for you out there. Take pictures and document problems. The lawyer will beg you to go away. Do not, I didnt and I won.
