Go to a consumer credit counseling service, not these people

My daughter recently decided to use a consumer counseling center to try to settle her debts and avoid bankruptcy. Little did she know the difference between a credit counselor and a debt settlement company, neither did I for that matter. Stay away from this company. Only go to legitimate counseling companies that are non profit. Beacon figured a repayment scedule without even knowing her income. Monthly payments of $355.00 for 11 months was going to be their fee. $3905.00 in their pockets, which is non-refundable of course. The 12th payment would then go into an account to save up enough money to pay the first creditor. They charge her 8 percent of the settlement amount as a fee, in addition to a monthly maintenance fee of $15.00. Look up the attorney who is in charge of this - Richard A Lenard and you will see how many times his license has been suspended. Please stay away from this company. They send you a contract to sign by e mail, want to automatically debit your checking account every month. My daughter was called 7 times in one day because she hadn't faxed the contract back to them. I called them and was hung up on by Kathy Nyguen.
