For those of us who have lived in the valley for quite some time we knew the tattoo shop located on the north west corner of Alma School and Guadalupe back when it was Artisic Designs. The owner was a great guy.in fact that is where I got my first tattoo back in the day. After receiving a few more tattoos as well as knowing quite a few people in the industry I have become familiar with the process of a tattoo; what it takes to set up and tear down and the safety precautions involved.

As you may or may not know when receiving a tattoo a small or large ink cap is used based on the size of your tattoo. When finished the unused ink is then discarded; thrown out. It seems Idle Hands reuses their ink from the ink caps. Any unused portion is then poured back into the ink bottle for the next customer. Last time I checked a tattoo is needles going into your skin and possibily drawing blood, so when did it become safe to reuse something that was once in contact with someone else's blood? I remember back in the 80's when they started teaching us not to share needles. Hepatitis C anyone? Or how about HIV? Or even better AIDS?

Just recently a new law in Arizona went into effect; tattooing on minors is now illegal even with parents consent (just ask Club Tattoo, they'll tell you) well not only does Idle Hands not stay current with the laws but they do not even card anyone. They take your word for it. Great for the child, very bad for the child when he or she gets home. When did it become okay to be unprofessional? SO no paperwork it didn't happen? It show a lack of experience (apprenticing doesn't count as your experience; your tattooing time does) It's unfortunate that a business that was once respected is now tarnished.

My advise, find a nice custom shop where you know you will get a one of a kind piece, the treatment you deserve and the protection you need.
