I'm pretty good at recognizing a scam when I see one and this one was no exception. However, that being said, the check they sent looks very real (but is conterfeit). The company is real, the account is real, the bank the check is drawn on is real and the funds will be verified.

I called the company listed on the check and they have had a major problem with fraudulent checks.

The envelope is from Canada so I called the Canada anti-fraud department (888-405-8501) and reported what I had rec'd.

This is a scam - you will get into alot of trouble with authorities if you cash this check. You will be responsible for paying the money back when the check is returned. The bank can and will hold you accountable and possible press charges on you for cashing a fraduluent check. PLEASE DO NOT CHASH OR DEPOSIT.

Report this to your local News Station, Consumer Affairs Department and to the Post Office.
