Fraudulent Billing of Credit Card ripoff business

Over two months ago, we moved from CT to FL. On my latest credit card statement, saw a charge for $109.95 from an outfit called MWI Essentials, which was based in CT. Since neither my wife nor I remembered making this charge, called the number (877-244-8258) listed on my credit card statement for this business.

It was Sunday and they were closed, but I got their voice mail. The automated attendant said something about "gift cards". Then I checked the Internet to see if I could find any info on this business that might jog my memory about making this charge.

It was here at this web site I found information detailing numerous scams perpetrated by this very same business in the very same way I got scammed. Then I called the credit card company to dispute this charge and have it removed from my bill. They told me the charge was made by a telemarketing company.

Still don't know how they got our credit card number, unless one of us inadvertantly gave it out over the phone. I guess the lesson to be learned here is never give your credit card information to anyone over the phone unless you are certain they are legitimate.

To further follow up on this, I plan to contact the CT Attorney General's office about this scam next week.
