Bradley Stillwagon Kennels
Kennel put an unneutered dog with my female dog - and we were surprised when she had puppies

I left my female dog at Bradley Stillwagon kennel in December. I made the reservation three months in advance because we had to catch a flight to go overseas. My husband and I spoke with Bernard several times and dropped by to make sure that the reservation was firm and that all the dogs vaccinations were in order. The owner, a man named Bernard said that there would be no problem.

A few hours before our flight, we delivered our dog to the kennel. At this time, Bernard informed us that he would be putting our female with a male "boyfriend" so that she was not lonesome. We told him that she was not spayed, as I had told him earlier, because we wanted to breed her, and that she could not be left in a pen with an unneutered dog. He asked when the female was last in heat. I said I didnt know because she was a young female, fourteen months old, and did not yet have regular cycles. He then told us that he does not accept dogs in heat and that he had no choice but to keep her isolated.

We were stunned that he would not have mentioned this until a few hours before our flight left after speaking to him repeatedly after making the reservation. We had always kept our female away from males, so there was never a problem, as we were vigilant about it.

We left the dog with him. When we picked her up two weeks later, she appeared healthy. Afterwards, we noticed she was putting on weight, and two months later, she had four puppies. After the puppies were born, I counted back the days in order to estimate the time of conception. Conception could have only occurred during the two weeks she was in the kennel.

I contacted Bernard, and he admitted to leaving several different male dogs in the same pen with our female, as if this were a normal thing to do. I have an email from him stating that he put both a Jack Russel and a Pomeranian in the same pen with our female, even though he told us that he would not do this.

Bernard was extremely irresponsible in that he put an unneutered male dog in with our female without telling us. He could have at least let us know to have her checked out afterward. He says it is our fault because he does not accept dogs in heat but she was not in heat when we delivered her. Bernard is entirely responsible for this, but has refused responsibility.
I believe his business license should be revoked.
