3 minutes long distance $27.80 somthing wrong here

My son was stranded in Iowa I live in Ohio he was a missing person so when he finally did call I accepted the long distance charges. It was 27.80 for 3 minutes. When I called about it I was told simply told (thats what we charge). When I told them I was turning them in he simply replied ok. What arip-off to take peoples money like that. Can they actually get away wit this. I want my money back what can people like me do? Thanks for listening.
