Refund runaround hitting senior citizens in Canada

A phone call answered by my 80 year old father with early dementia resulted in a charge against his Visa account for $299.00 in May. My mother immediately followed the procedure to cancel as set out by Vacation Promotions and although she has made numerous calls, has still not received any form of refund.

Promises for follow up by the "third party" company that accepts phone calls for Vacation Promotions has only resulted in frustration.

When I called today on my parent's behalf, I was told that this third party company had tried to reach my parents for 4 months which is obviously untrue unless they don't know how to use an answering machine to leave a message. Of course they could have called Sunday mornings while my parents where at church but why no message unless they did not want to be contacted back?

I was advised by "Tommy" that, yes there were many notes on my parents' file since June but it wasn't until February 19/08 that "Casey" actually followed up with the required paperwork to initiate the refund from Vacation Promotions. He indicated that my parents should receive the credit to their Visa in 45 business days from February 19, or this third party company could take "procedures" against them. What that means, who knows

When I advised him that we'd been in touch with the Florida State Attorney's office today and also that our international lawyer wanted their address, he provided me with the address as shown above. He also indicated that if we were sending any correspondence - to clearly mark "Not for Cancellation" on the envelope and in the first line of the letter. He advised that all "cancellation" type letters got "stuffed" in a filing cabinet until someone got around to them.
