Advertisement Newspaper Agent Scam

I received an email from "Optimus Group" for a part time position available as a newpaper agent. All I would have to do is reply with my name and address to get the first check. The job was to cash the check and call the local newspapers to post ads for their customers. For each ad I posted, I was promised $100 comission. Something just didn't seem right about this company. Why would they trust a perfect stranger with their money... How did they know I was really going to post the advertisments?

When I looked them up there wasn't much I could find that related to their company. So I asked if they could send me a link to their site, when I received it I went on it I noticed that the site was very simple and poorly put together. The only way of contacting them is through email.

Then about a week later I received a $2,399 check in the mail from Tracy A Johnson, the bank on the check was Northwest Federal Bank. The next morning I noticed that I had received an email from "Optimus Group" asking if I received the check and insisting that i had 48 hours to wire the money to the people that would post the advertisements.

So just to make sure that it was legit, I called the bank that the check was issued from. Sure enough they confirmed that this was a scam!!! They said that the way it works is, you deposit the check and you wire the money within 48 hours to the supposed newspapers. The check takes at least 7 days to clear so you would be sending money out of your own funds. Then when the 7 days go by, the check will not clear and the money will have been taken out of your account.
