Unsolicited nuisance mail

Like many others, I received an unsolicited invitation to join a so-called secret society. Taken as a whole, including the receipt of the 56 page document supposed to reveal all their secrets, there is not one statement in the whole of their material that can be taken at face value. The lies start in the first three sentences of the letter - "This is a personal letter just to you. Notice: this is not a mass mailing; this letter came to you by first class mail, not by third-class bulk mail" The letter had all the hallmarks of a bullk mailout. It was mailed via international surface airlift, an el cheapo form of intercontinental airmail, where mail is transported by road in the originating and receiving continents, and only the intercontinental link is by air. First class airmail from the US to Australia, where I live, takes 5-7 days although I have had letters delivered in three.

The letter is undated, whch gives the game away that no estimate can be made as to how long it took to deliver. The deadline was also non-specific, only stated as "next Friday" which could mean anything. Strange that they wanted a prompt response, yet their 56 page booklet took just over a month to reach me from the date I faxed my response. Once again, they wanted an instant reply, or dire consequences would ensue. Also, the booklet was mailed from New Zealand this time, so they are very creative in using the mail systems for what reasons I can only imagine - cost? Deceit?

In spite of telling me no less than 25 times in the original letter, that their offering was free and would contain all their secrets, the booklet did nothing of the kind but informed me that I needed to send $US150.00 or the equivalent, for a manuscript of 553 or 680 pages for the full deal. They couldn't even make up their rminds how big the manuscript was supposed to be, between the booklet text and the order form.

Now, if they want to flog a $150 manuscript, why not be open and upfront about it, instead of going through the ridiculous charade they chose?

If a class action is to be undertaken, I would go for forcing them to supply the "secrets" they offered for free, not that I believe that they have any, but being forced to supply lots of manuscripts might put a dent in their finances.
