About a year and a half ago I was contacted via email by Karina to work as a graphic designer for Tradeelectronics. I really needed the money at the time, and I thought this was my answer. I am an educated professional with a bachelor's degree in Print/Graphic Communication from a reputable school in Dallas. I did a few weeks worth of "test projects" for her, and I was finally sent a w-4 to fill out for employment. I have worked at a few places, but I have not had a lot of big contracts like the one she was promising. Everything seemed legit, so I filled out the paperwork and sent it in. A week went by, and I asked for some money. She sent me a check for $100.00. It seemed small, but I was glad to get some spending money, and I figured it was a goodwill gesture. When I took the check to be cashed, the check cashing place was very skeptical about cashing it. Finally, I convinced them to do it because the company had a website with contact info (if only they knew...).
Anyway, about 2 weeks in, I had not been paid again, and Karina was insisting that I would see a check in the mail any day. I was given the number to another new employee that supposed to handling our marketing. I received a call from her one afternoon, and she sounded nice, professional, and enthusiastic about her new position. She told me that she had left a large internet marketing firm to work at Tradeelectronics, and that the position had been pretty lucrative for her. A few days later she called me agin to tell me that she had still not been paid, and that she was starting to think that Tradeelectronics was a scam. After a month with no pay, I was thinking the same thing. Finally, I got a REAL job offer, and I jumped on it. I never heard from Karina or received a check for my months worth of work and many long hours at my computer. I repeatedly tried to call and was hung up on numerous times.investigation in to the company revealed that it was a total fraud. I had just started my new job, and I was too busy to really follow up on anything though. A year later, I am a highly paid expert in the printing and graphic design field. I have worked for three fortune 500 companies in the past year. I find my job rewarding, and I am almost embarrassed that I ever fell for this ploy. It has been the cause of a lot of bad feelings on my part. I was THRILLED to find out that Karina was finally able to be brought to justice. I wanted nothing more at the time than to have her thrown in jail. Great job to whoever had the resources and follow-through to make this happen. Karina is a horrible person that was making a living by stealing from others. It is nice to see that justice can still be served.
