VLGC sent a stolen check by mail made out to me. Then wanted 90% of the money Moneygramed back to them. Victoria B.C. Canada

Miscellaneous

I recieved a letter and check for $2,600.00 in the mail stating I had won a sum of $150,000.00. The check for $2600.00 has been decucted from my winnings to expedite the processing of my lump sum amount. The check is real but I was asked not to use it until I called a Mr. Kelly Jones.

I called "Mr. Jones" and was asked questions pertaining to the letter. No personal information was asked. Mr. Jones stated that he had just activated the check using the claim # mentioned in the letter, then said as soon as I deposited the check into my checking account to call him back. I was leery of the check so I looked up the phone # of the Company the check was written on and called them. They told me that checks had been stolen from them and if I had a check from them it was stolen and I would be responsible if I chased the check.

I waited until the next morning to call Mr. Jones back. I lied to him and said I had just deposited the check. He asked when it would clear my bank. I lied again and told him by that afernoon. He then told me that I needed to send $2,400.00 by moneygram to a Helen Adams in Victoria B.C. Canada. She would send me the paperwork to expedite the processing of the rest of my winnings. He asked me to call him as soon as I sent the money.

I was very fortunate that I didn't loose my money I just hope this report will help others who are being scammed.
