Fraudulent check contest winner ripoff

Miscellaneous

I received a check for $2,990.00 check drawn on Independence Bank, Brooklyn NY telling me i was selected as 10th place winner in a contest and this check was to cover fees. The post mark on the envelope was from Canada. The address at the bottom of the letter was also from Ontario Canada. All I had to do was contact a local person to activate my acct and they would then send me the balance of $46,000.00. This is a scam! Per the police dept they will ask you to wire them money after you have deposited the initial check. Then the check will bounce leaving you to deal with the bank while they have your money. I was instructed to return it to the post office so they can investigate.
