Encore Management Group Inc
Advertises Entry-Level Management job, the real job is selling junk out of the your car trunk

Miscellaneous

I responded to an entry-level management opening from Careerbuilder.com. I showed up for the initial interview, and I was told that the company marketed promotional products from companies like Disney. Turns out I was one of the "handful of people" selected for a second interview.

I showed up for the second interview and I was one of about 15 people standing around waiting for their second interview. The second interview was supposed to give us a look at the "front end" of the business. I was told to accompany one of the top representatives for the day and he would provide his recommendation regarding me to the owner.

What we ended up doing was going to the ghetto and canvasing the area. The guy went door to door, car to car, and asked any and every person he saw if they wanted to buy this junk remote control car that had a suggested retail value of $39.99 for the bargain price of $10. The car looked like it came from the $0.99 store.

The guy was able to sell about 10 cars in the 3 hours that I spend with him before requesting for him to return me to my vehicle. During this interview, he revealed to me that he made $2 on every car he sold (50% of the markup). The job advertisement that I responded to indicated entry-level management positions from $25K-$35k per year. The guy told me that he had been working there one year and that he sold 30 cars on the previous day. I did the quick math and figured out he only make $60 the previous day. He also leaked to me that the job was a contract position.

In short, these people are advertising entry-level management positions and in reality are trying to get people to sell junk out of the trunk of their car.
