Magazine company, door to door magazine salesperson

I was playing around on the internet and watching my son during the day like I always do, and some young man came to my door and seemed very polite. He was selling magazines for a college trip and etc...
I told him no several times but he seemed very sweet and so I bought my husband a subscription for valentines day. Low and behold it never showed. Ive called the number several times and it never works. Go figure. I wasted $40, and my husband received no gift. I would like to have my money back but I guess thats not an option. He has ruined it for all other door to door saleperson that I will ever come in contact with.
