Fraud Fundraiser - Sends kids to your door! Ripoff

Miscellaneous

This company sends young adults to your door posing as local athletes doing a fund raiser.

This young girl (maybe 17ish) came to my door telling me she played softball for our local high school team. She said they were going to a national championship in San Diego, CA and they needed to raise money. After hearing her talk about her team and how excited her grandmother who lived in our neighborhood was, she hit me up for the books even telling me about my neighbor's generous order. You could either purchase the hard cover books for around $50 or have some "donated" to a local school. I chose to purchase a $59 book. When she left, I examined the receipt and noticed that in no where did it indicate a fund raiser.in fact, it had a field for sales person ID. I immediately felt I had been scammed. I then Googled the company name and seen an identical report from Fort Wayne Idiana except this kid said he was a soccer player. I then went ad found her and confronted her. She nicely gave me my check back, never admitting or denying the scam. I then went to my neighbors house and told them. When she and I went to look for the girl, she had made it to the front of our neighborhood and was standing there waiting for a ride.

It made me ill to think this company is using young adults to peddle their overpriced books in the name of a "fund raiser". I will definately be skeptical the next time a kid comes to my door. I'm just glad I wrote a check. I thought about calling the police, but I wasn't sure if they would even do anything.

Hopefully, this will save others from this scam.
