Ripoff for lower level hourly employess

I'd like to speak to, what is in my estimation, an unfair hiring and firing process by the law firm of Adami, Goldman & Shuffield. If you are considering employment with this law firm as a legal assistant or file clerk, you should pay attention to this submission.

I was hired at the Austin office of AGS law firm (they have a primary office in San Antonio.) First of all, they offer a very inadequate wage for a file clerk/runner of $8/hr. Trust me, for the amount of work performed and high level of organization it takes to manage the files, this is an insult.

My main objection to this firm is the way I was terminated. I started the job on a Monday, trying to learn the ropes and performing the job requirements adaquately.By the end of the week, I had begun to grasp the system the attorneys wanted me to follow and beyond a friendly reminder about "copy codes", NO ONE had spoken to me about any concerns they had regarding my job performance.

The following weekend, on a Sunday, I badly sprained my ankle playing in a soccer league. Monday morning, I contacted my supervising paralegal to let them know that I could not drive because of my injury and that I could perform all other functions of my job.

Later that day, I recieved a call from someone in the San Antonio office telling me that they were terminating my employment because of "filing issues" that "some attorneys" were concerned with, BS. No one had told me about these concerns during the last week and I believe they terminated me because of the fact that I would not be able to drive to the Texas Workers' Compensation Commision for a few days. Rather than hiring a temp for a whopping 2 days, they just ended my employment then and there, without my own so called boss talking to me directly.

The people in the Austin office are generally good people, but have horrible communication skills and little or no time to acclamate a new subordinate to the day to day activities their own office requires. So beware, horrible communication, questionable termination, and a lack of support.
