Miscellaneous

I purchased an adorable "Snorkie" (Schnauzer/Yorkie) from a woman whos "business" is called Delightfulpups and also goes by Delightfulpets.'

I received her (Taytor Bug) March 27th. She was very tiny, but she told me that she would only get to be about 4-5 pounds at the most when mature. She also had her siblings with her to deliver to "other owners". She (Taytor Bug) was 1 lb., her siblings were 3 pounds. I asked if she was the runt, she said "no, just little". I fell in love with my little Taytor right away. When I held her, she didn't have any puppy fat on her. She was dirty, stinky, crusty eyes and seemed very scared of everything that was going on.

*Note: I asked where she was located and we (myself and mom) would pick her up. She diverted that by saying she had a delivery and had to pass by here anyway. So she had me meet her at a Pilot station.

Once I had her (pd $650) I stopped by the vets office to get eye drops. Her appt was for the following day. So, the following day I took her to the vet and she weighed in at 1 lb. Her tests all came up negative, but what ailed her doesn't show 100% of the time. It only rears its ugly head when shedding.

After the appt. I took her home and gave her food and nutrical.By the next day I was noticing she really didn't eat much at all. Once in a great while she would eat 2-3 bits of food. I didn't think anything of it, just assumed it had to do with change of home. But, she took to me very well. She wanted me to hold her all the time and cuddle. I would take her out to go to the bathroom, and she would put her tiny paw on my foot to let me know that she was done and she wanted up. (DOB 1/28/06)

After about 4 days, I really got worried and took her into the vet, she lost weight, but didn't find anything. Only did physical exam, not any testing. The following day she still wouldn't eat, so I took her to the vet (no appt) and they tried the a/d canned food to try and coax her to eat, but no interest at all. Then, she pooped on the counter. They used that for a fecal sample. ALAS!!! Coccidia has shown it's nasty face. At this point she was down to 13oz. We started her on Albon right away. I contacted the seller a couple day earlier, and told her that she hasn't had an interest in food at all, she then made the remark to me that, "Yeah, she really didn't eat much here either".

That night she threw up. (Please note that I had been force feeding canned food a little bit throughout the day for sustinance, and nutrical) I called the vet on call, and she recommended that I don't feed or give her water for the night in hopes that will make her more aggressive towards food. No luck. I gave her the Albon, and about 10-15 minutes later she threw up. I took her back to the vet. She was down to 10oz. The vet did IV fluids as she was very dehydrated, gave her and antibiotic shot, and also gave me instructions on how to give my new little baby shots 3x a day to keep her from throwing up. I didn't think I could do it, but I would do anything to help her. I did it. I also (for the prior 2 days up to now and one more day), every 1 1/2 hrs had to give her nutrical/pedialite/karo syrup and I also had to administer an antibiotic 2x a day, injection 3x a day, Albon once a day and keep her on warm packs or keep her close for body heat.

On April 8 when I woke up for the last nutrical/pedialite/karo syrup run, Taytor was very lathargic. She couldn't hold up her own head. She couldn't stand. When I was trying to give her the pedialite, she let out a little whine and then she deficated all over herself and then started throwing up. I had my husband run her to the vet. Which had to be the one that was 20-25 min away because the one I usually take them to was working in Delevan that morning and it would've taken him more time to get here, than for us to go to their cooperating office.

He got her there and tested her sugar level, extremely low, body temp low. They gave her glucose, and then as they were trying to start an IV, for warm fluids to both warm her and hydrate her, she just couldn't hang on anymore. She died. She died weighing just 7 tenths of a pound.

I wrote Persis (Persis Schafer is the lady who I bought Taytor Bug from through www.delightfulpups.com) and told her what happened. She wouldn't give me a refund but would give me another puppy. I agreed to it.

I got, who we now call Goofy, a puppy that was supposedly black. However, she looked gray she was so dirty. She had dried up feces stuck in her fur, crusty eyes. My gut instinct told me what was to come. I had her appt set up for that day. She had us meet her at a gas station 1 hr north of us, but supposedly "along the way for her next delivery". She avoided us meeting her at the "place of business".

I took her to the vet and they took a fecal sample and she tested positive for coccidia first time. Coincidence? THINK NOT!!! They are from different litters, different DOB. Goofy was born 1-30-06

She was put on Albon.By the way, we got her April 11. She has only been off Albon for one week since we have had her as the coccidia will not die. We have put a minimum $1,300 into Delightfulpups. I asked for at least a $400 refund on Taytor's purchase price, I wasn't asking for any vet expenses. Her response was, she would give me the $400, but she also wanted the puppy.

I couldn't send her back there. I can't imagine the illness that is being spread there. She was filthy, her kids were filthy, the van was filthy and stinky. It was just disgusting. Unfortunately, I didn't even think to get her license plate number. She doesn't have a home address, just a PO Box.

I am 99% sure she is running a puppy mill. I need help to shut her down. I don't have the money to do anymore searching, and once they are closed down, I know they will all need long term treatment, at least for coccidia. I can't imagine what else. You can see it in their eyes when you go to their website that they are not happy, healthy dogs.

Goofy didn't even know what grass was when we first got her. She was scared to death. It has taken a lot of work to earn her trust, and help her learn a lot of things. She still has yet to learn to come to her name, or even to come. I know it is a trust issue. We are getting there.

We are not done fighting the coccidia as of 5-10-06, but will not give up. What she has allowed these innocent little pups to suffer with is inexcuseable! Our vet bill grows each week as we consistently have her feces tested, and then the meds. Thank you for any information you can add or help to shut them down.
