Ripoff

I just recently recieved a postcard in the mail stating that I was eligible for $5,000 in gov. Grants. I called the agency and they started asking me for personal info on the phone which I gave until they wanted my bank account number for$299.97 fee, I automatically had red flag in my head declined in which part they hung up on me. I think that I gave to much info such as ssn#, address, and number of kids. I am afraid of what they can do with the info I gave I now know better! After getting off the phone I decided to do some investigating and of course I my search ended on this website stating that they were ripping people off all across the country. I am now worried how thay can use the info I did give them. This a cruel thing to do to people! I hope they are caught and all persons involved are held accountable! It sounded to good to be true. I wish I knew how they got my address and why they targeted me. There needs to be some answers. I feel very violated and afraid of what could come of the info I gave them. I would like to know how can somebody be sure that they are not being scammed?
