Miscellaneous

About a month ago I received a phone call stating "I had won a sweepstakes and would receive a gold watch with a real diamond in it along with some magazines." The man I talked to went on discussing to me about which magazines I had one and took some info from me so he could send all my prizes to me. Then by the end of the conversation he said I would be charged $50 for everything. Not thinking too much about it I said okay. He told me they would call to reconfirm our conversation later on that day. I figured that would give me time to think about it and I could cancel if I didn't want anything.

Later on that day a women called me to reconfirm. But to my shock they were going to be billing me $50 every month for a year. I asked for a call back number so I could call back after I talk to someone with more knowledge about what I could do. She refused to give me a number where I could call back and said it would come in the mail with my paper work. She said there would be one more person calling me to make a final confirmation. I figured I would get the number from that person.

A few days passed and another lady called me to reconfirm. When I talked to her I told her I could not afford to pay $50 a month for twelve months. She stated to me that "I had verbally agreed and I could not cancel." Frustrated and angry I told her again I could not afford the merchandise and that I did not want it. All she did was tell me again I could not cancel and told me I could pay $29 a month for twenty four months.

I figured I would wait to get there paper work in the mail, send it back with a letter saying I wanted to cancel. Well I never received anything in the mail, but the other day when I was checking my bank account I noticed that $29.12 had been with-drawn from my account from USA Magazine Exchange. Luckily there was a phone number with the amount withdrawn from my account and so I called it. I told them I wanted to cancel that I could not afford it, but they still resisted. I had my mom (who more knowledgeable than I) call them and tell them I needed to cancel, again they told her I could not stating I had "verbally agreed." Then when my mom asked to talk to a supervisor they refused to put one on. My mother called back a third time to find out if there was anyway we could pay them to cancel my order, the man she talked to stated that "if she paid $250 they would cancel." Shocked when I heard this I sought out further help.

The thought of them trying to make us pay $250 upfront to cancel is ridiculous. All their after is the money and nothing more. To this day I still have received nothing in the mail from their company. I canceled my debit card as well. I have written a notarized letter to their company telling them in hand writing that I don't want their merchandise and want nothing to do with their company.
