Star Communications
Ripoff offering $500 shopping spree

Miscellaneous

Star Communications called me one day and offered me a $500 shopping spree in return for trying three of their products. They ask you to try a calling card, a family fun pass program, and a "cable pay" program which is supposed to pay half of your cable bill. I agreed to let them send me the first two. However, I did not allow them to send the cable pay because they automatically deducted $300 from your account.

I was also asked to pay a shipping fee of $4.95 to get the shopping spree and the information on the other two offers. If you did not want the offers you are supposed to cancel. If you don't cancel they will start drawing membership fees out of your bank account.

I decided $4.95 and cancelling a few offers was worth getting a $500 shopping spree right before christmas. However, I did not recieve the information or the shopping spree in the time promised. I called the customer care line to see if there was a problem. While I was on the customer care line I looked up star communications on the internet and found this consumer complaints site.

Based on the information on the site, I asked if I was actually going to recieve the shopping spree. The woman told me that I do not actually get a shoping spree.instead, you shop anywhere you want and then you mail in the bill with the receipt to them. They are then supposed to pay back the $500 by sending you $20 every week. Its a rebate program, not a shoping spree.

I told the woman that the telemarketer had been very misleading. She said that no one had been mislead and I was just mistaken. Anyway, I cancelled all of the stuff that they were supposed to send me. I am supposed to be getting a refund check for my $4.95 but I don't know if I'm going to get it. I just hope that they will not take any more money out of my account. We'll see how it goes.
