I have been receiving phone calls after work from an individual, who's first language is clearly NOT English. He always asked to speak to me, but I would say, "she is not home." These calls kept coming for about 3 consecutive days.
On this particular night I decided to put a stop to these calls, so I went along with "the process." He (Jon) explained that I had been chosen, by the government, from a pool of qualified recipients.
Apparently, the government grants money to individuals that "have payed their taxes and have a clean criminal record." All that I needed to do, in order to receive my amount was to give them my bank name and the account number of where I wanted the money deposited. I would then be transferred to their "verification department, " which turned out to be a cheesy automated voice.
However, there would be a "one time" processing fee of about $300, which would be charged within the next 2 days. The man assured me that if this were a scam that I would be able to simply go to my bank and asked them to stop any transaction. He gave me all of his information in order to make me feel comfortable about giving him my CONFIDENTIAL information.
As I am listening to him reassure me of his credibility I Google the company name. The search brings me to usacomplaints.com, where there are two other testimonials, with the same exact information given to me! I ask the caller that if this was not a scam, then why is their information posted on a scam alert website? He mumbles something and hangs up.
This was a suspicious call from the start, so I went through with it to see how far they would go. I'm glad that other people reported them, which is why I'm reporting it as well. So that if someone else Googles this scam, they'll be sure to find the truth.
