Why does America continue to allow this vulture to sit on our shoulders, leeching our resources and pressing our young people into its "Army"? The United Nations vampire does absolutely nothing for the citizens of America!

I have watched California struggle to recover from earthquakes and wildfires. I have watched Florida struggle to recover from last year's hurricane season. Now it will be the Gulf States, with a tragic loss of life and property from Katrina.in between last hurricane season and this, there was the tsunami.

If a third world country suffers a devastating loss the UN will scramble into action right away. It is strangely silent when tragedy strikes America. Am I the only one noticing that?

The bulk of the money for this hotbed of corruption comes from America. I am here to tell you that we are investing very poorly in this venture. All outlay, no return is bad business. The United Nations is bad for America, period.

The UN needs to be moved off our soil and the United States needs to drop its membership in this glorified cesspool. I have always wondered why the UN was never targeted by terrorists. As we have begun following the money trail, I now understand. It is a front for terrorism in itself, as well as being lucrative for the slimy higher-ups and their relatives. Enough is enough!

Here is the UN reaction to Katrina: Be prepared and educate yourselves. Yeah, right. Let's all wave our high school diplomas and college degrees at the next hurricane or earthquake. Surely that will stave off disaster. Or is only tourists that need to do that? Or maybe we can just don our tinfoil caps and natural disasters will be a thing of the past?

Rich nations can also suffer from natural disasters, says UN agency chief

30 August The devastation being wrought in the south-eastern United States by Hurricane Katrina and the recent deadly floods in Central Europe and Switzerland prove that anyone can be affected, any day, anywhere by natural disaster, said the head of the United Nations disaster-reduction body, calling for more systematic prevention and mitigation measures.

As a tourist or as a traveller, we can be faced by natural disasters that do not exist in our country. Therefore we have to be constantly prepared for all types of natural disasters, Slvano Briceo, Director of the Secretariat of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR), told a press briefing in Geneva.

Stressing that even the richest countries have not been spared by such catastrophes, he added that recent weather-rated catastrophes provide an opportune moment for the media to pass the message that it is important for all to be prepared in the future. Such natural disasters will have ever more impact because of increased vulnerability due to urban growth and population growth, he said.

People need to be better prepared, and there should be more education and awareness-raising on this subject, he said, adding: People need to be aware of the importance of early warning systems, and how they can participate, and that there are programmes for preparing for natural catastrophes in which they can participate, as well as simulation exercises.
