Miscellaneous

We just received a phone call from someone with a foreign accent. He claimed his name was Sam Barker (ID number 179243671). After he had been speaking to my husband for about ten minutes, my husband asked me for my checkbook. (He wanted to verify our bank's routing number—"Sam" had given him the number.) This is when I became suspicious and took the phone. "Sam" said that we were eligible for a government grant of $25,000. Of course, he continually stressed that the money would never have to be paid back and all the other things one might say to get someone to agree to give their financial information over the phone. Luckily, neither my husband nor myself are willing to give any numbers over the phone unless WE initiate the call. This way, we KNOW to whom we are speaking. I did ask "Sam" the company's official name, address, etc. Of course, the address he gave me does not exist (I was on the net typing the information in as he gave it to me). I knew something was REALLY wrong when he gave me a 4 digit number when I asked him for the zip code!

We were not "scammed", but I just wanted to let others know about this. I also intend to contact the FCC or maybe the atty gen. However, I thought more people would see this! Good luck to everyone else!
