Thank you for posting this story. I faced the same situation, there was a guy sent me an email said that he has an apartment for rent 700$ a month, he's in Manila for his work. First, i was interested in his apartment because i was looking for an apartment in LA, then it started to get fishy. I asked him to send me his passport and he sent me a Californis driver license with named Jacob Robin which is already expired since last year. Addtionally he gave me an offer that if i pay for 2 months he will give me 1 month stay for free. I felt fishy and realised that is a scam, i search his name in google so i saw the story about him. And now i know the truth, really thank for sharing this and sorry for your lost.
