My purse is shedding!

I recieved my purse from a very dear friend that recently passed away. It was a gift so I never asked her where it came from. I love my purse but it is shedding the top layer of skin! It is very embarassing when I carry it with me and leave small pieces of it every where. I have carried Liz Claiborne purses for sometime now and love them. However, isn't there some way to resolve this? I have a very hard time choosing a purse, but I do love this one. Got any suggestion? It just really looks bad. I hate not using it because of this. But if there is no solution I will have no choice but to stop using Liz Claiborne purses. I really don't want to do that but if you don't stand behind your products it is just to costly to me to play with. Please help!!
