"Lisa", with an Indian accent, called from a VoIP blocked number such that there was a delay. I immediately figured it was a scam, but being a software developer I decided to play along to see what they were up to. She had me go to Start / Run / eventvwr. Within Event Viewer, she had me click on Applications. She asked whether there were Errors and Warnings there - there were, so I said yes. She said those are due to viruses on my computer. She then directed me to www.teamviewer.com and asked me to click on "Join Remote Control Session" which is a link to download TeamViewerQS_en. Exe. At this point I stopped and told her I didn't trust her. I asked the name of her company. She said "Software Maintenance Technology". She encouraged me to call 801-512-0135, as if doing that would somehow verify they're a legitimate company. I said I would research the company. She said she would call back after 5 minutes after I've had time to research the company. She called back promptly. During that time a quick Google search of 801-512-0135 proved this is a scam. I also Googled "Software Maintenance Technology" - no such company of course. As for the Errors and Warnings in EventViewer, I Googled those, such as "Bonjour Service" and "CVHSVC" and both are harmless / normal services. I asked Lisa whether she realizes she works for a fraudulent company. Either she's a good actress, or she actually believes she is working for a legitimate company. I told her to Google 801-512-0135. She did, and said it didn't tell her anything. She became defensive and hung up on me.
