Miscellaneous

I responded to a promotion for a watch for a trial period at the cost of $5.99 shipping. I never received any written confirmation of the order or any instructions on how to follow up. When I received the watch, it was just a little cheap thing with no paper work except a thank you note. NO receipt or info on the cost. Since I was on my way out of the country for three weeks, I just forgot about it. However, when I returned, there was another watch in the mail. Again no paper work. I emailed the company about the fact that I did not order two watches. I received an email telling me that this was a "subscription based" program and that when I gave my credit card I had agreed to the fine print, which said that if I did not return the first watch within 14 days, I would be billed $95.00, and that I would be sent another watch every month and billed $49.99 each. I was told that my subscription would be cancelled, but there was no refund available on either of the watches. Who would want a new cheap watch every month for a price of $50 each? This is a real scam. I sent an email saying that I plan to report this to the California Consumer Affairs Dept. I am willing to return both watches, which have not been out of the box and to forfeit the original $5.99, but ask to be refunded for both watches on return.
