Hankook Tire Co, LTD
Consumer Report

Miscellaneous

While driving on I12 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana about 745PM, March 30 my right rear tire had a "blow out". Since I was traveling about 60MPH in interstate traffic, with the car "fishtailing", I was unable to immediately control the vehicle and come to a safe stop.

When I returned the wheel and tire to the Hyundai dealer today, Monday 4/1 I was informed that the tire was not covered by dealer
or by Hankook Tire Company warranty.

When I expressed disbelief that a company such as Hankook Tire had no greater confidence in their products than to refuse to stand behind their good? Name, the Assistant Manager of Hyundai service offered to contact Hankook to give them an opportunity to stand behind their defective product.

The Asst Service Manager (Brad Goodman 225 274-0071 All Star Automotive Group) was informed by Alvin (800 426-8252, ex 15) that if the inside of the tire showed "heat lines (or something of that nature)” Hankook would not replace the tire, even though it was only in service for about 1200 miles.

Not only am I at a loss to comprehend why / how Hankook Co would allow someone, who obviously doesn't seem to understand the ramifications and safety concerns of a driver having an unexpected blowout to bring a car which has instantly lost all pressure in a defective tire, and fishtailing at 60MPH to a safe halt without creating heat in that tire.

While it is true that I was forced to drive an additional half mile, or so to a service station at the next exit, the tire had already failed and yes - beyond all logical reasoning - heat should and would have been generated. How, if what was implied by you knowledgeable employee please explain why or even how the wheel displays no evidence of excessive travel.

Pending your reply, a copy of this complaint will be provided Hyundai Motor Corp with the recommendation, that in the interest of the safety and service of and to their customers, that they discontinue utilizing Hankook product on their vehicles until and unless Hankook displays good faith and sound judgment in future dealings.

I await your reply,

Sincerely

Harry L (Personal Information Removed)
