I ordered Volume One of Recollections and Reminiscences 1861-1865, and it was noted to be "nice and clean", and comments indicated 100% satisfaction. When I received my book it had a pinkish mark diagonally across the front of the book, similiar to a crayon mark, and it had a somewhat darker spot of it in the crease of the spine on the front of the book. I tried to remove it with soap, water and sponge, and it does look better; however, the small spot on the spine (front of book) it caused a white spot to occur. The interior of the book is in good shape. There was some dirty smudges on the outside of pages on top and bottom. I tried to remove, but they smudged more. Needless to say I was disappointed because I had just purchased brand new Volumes 2 thru 8. It will be o.K.in my set, but I don't think she should be considered 100% satisfaction again. I am disappointed.
