Kathy, my wife, and I had been shopping online for "overnight" loans. On 2/5, I received a call asking for Kathy. I explained she was at work, would be at work all day, usually 7:00am to 7:30pm. They could talk to me, or they could call on the weekend, or they could give me their phone number and Kathy would call them back. They declined, and I ask for the company name, etc. The caller declined, citing confidentiality.
Next day, the same thing. When I answered the autodialer, and before the caller picked up, I could hear persistent racket - people talking over each other. It sounded like a busy boiler room. I began receiving two, then three calls a day. Each time, I explained my wife's unavailability and offered contact options. I also asked questions, which were avoided.
On 2/11, I received a total of about 15 phone calls, including 6 hang-ups. The caller could be identified only by the boiler-room sound on the phone. On 2/12, which turned out to be a County holiday, Kathy was home. When they asked for her, I gave her the phone. During their pitch to my wife, she asked for the ARP on a $1,200 loan. It seemed to confuse the caller. Eventually, Kathy got idiotic numbers, like $12.00, or 6%. Kathy told them she was not interested, and hung up. I fear, however, that tomorrow is another day for these guys...
