Double charged

I recently rented from Redbox 3 movies and paid $3.85 for them. I didn't return them the next day when they were due, but returned them the following day expecting to pay another charge of $3.85.instead I was charged an additional charge of $7.70 on top of the $3.85. I then called Redbox customer service and wanted to know why I was being charged $3.85 and $7.70. It was then explained to me that the $3.85 would be refunded to my checking account within 3 to 5 business days. So. A total of $11.55 is coming out of my checking account instead of just $7.70 which is really what I owe. I have to wait 3 to 5 business days before I'll see a refund on the first charge of $3.85. Red Box wants to blame the delay of the refund on my bank but I have had other stores give a refund that immediately showed up in my checking account. So what is going on with my $3.85 in those 3 to 5 days? Are they using it for something else. Is this a short term loan? Needless to say, I am NOT happy about this and probably will not be renting from Redbox again.
