Like most of you in this thread, I've also been contacted by this company with a job offer. I had applied to a CSR position on Monster.ca and received a phone call the following day from an Ashley Stevens about offering me a Mystery Shopper job.
They then sent me a training package by Purolator the following day.in this package was 3 piece of paper and 2 checks for $1280.00 each. The first sheet was a "Customer Service Evaluator" congratulations letter. The second was an instruction sheet on what to do (including faxing a copy of a government issued ID) and a break down of what the 1280 was for:
Assignment evaluation Training pay: $200.00
Retail Outlets 1&2: $40.00
Required funds to be sent by Western Union: $980.00
Service Charge By Western Union: $60.00
Total: $1280.00
The third page was a very basic evaluation sheet.
I received a phone call on my cell from Ashley the day of the package to remind me it was going to be delivered between 9-12. She informed me that they were having phone issues at the office and provided me with a different number to contact her at and to do so as soon as I get the package and had read it over.
The number she gave me was: 1-866-566-8842 Ext 5. This is also listed on the first sheet as the Director of Operations number Harry W. Hyndman. When I called the number it was a toll free number for Warner Time Cable Company. So this number isn't even connected to Stellar Business Solutions. The other main number: 1-800-251-3350 Ext 5 said the number was temporarily disconnected.
Also, the phone number that Ashley kept calling me from was: 1-416-682-7000. If I tried to call that number back, I would be disconnected before it would even ring. I was unable to get in touch with anyone.
I looked up the 3 addresses on their letterhead:
United States of America
7201 W Clearwater
Kennewick, WA 99336
This address points to an Auto Parts Store.
Canada
31 Highfield drive
Whitby, ON L0B 1A0
This address is a small residential street north of Lake Ontario. No businesses to be seen.
London, UK
21-23 Elmfield Road
Bromley, Greater London BR1 1LT
This was a generic building that could have been anything. Was impossible to determine from google street view.
There was also this on the Purolator package:
Angela Middleton
2352 Bloor St W
Toronto, ON M6S 1P3
This is a Sweet Flour Bakery Shop address. There seems to be a side door that goes up to a second floor with cheap office space. Typical of a Telemarketing den. Familiar with them as there are many in Montreal just like it. There is also a number for this address on the Purolator package: 1-416-820-0633 to which they DO answer Stellar Business Solutions. I hung up since it's a long distance and didn't want to pay fees for nothing.
I also confirmed the address on the check for the bank: It's a Bank of America branch on 200 front street in Toronto. I contacted the bank and they confirmed they are at that address but as is typical with BoA, they were unwilling to verify any details whatsoever.
At the end of the day, everyone here is calling this a scam. And, certainly, it seems like that's the case. However, can someone tell me what these people gain? I can't see a way for them to earn any money out of me which is the main point of a scam.
