Rebate rip-off!

I purchased one of 321 Studios' products last December. It had a $50 rebate. I submitted for the rebate in January. Rebate form stated, "If you do not receive your rebate after 8 weeks, you may e-mail us at rebates@321. Studios.com." When two months had passed I did so, and also called. I was told my rebate had been "approved" on 2/5/04.

Weeks went by, still no rebate. (321 Studios was still offering rebates for their software products in local store ads.) I called again. After being on hold for 45 minutes, I finally got through to a person who told me my rebate had been approved and was being processed. I said it had been months already, when would I get it? I was told they were running a bit behind, but my rebate had been approved and I would receive it.

More than five months after submitting for my rebate I still had not received it. I called again on June 28th. (They no longer had a toll-free number, so I had to pay LD charges for the call.) I spoke to Gretchen, who gave me the same old line, "it's been approved, you'll get it soon." I told her I'd been waiting nearly 6 months already. If I didn't get it soon, I'd start writing letters of complaint and posting gripes online. She said she'd flag my account, and they "should get it to me in 30 days."

More than 30 days have passed and still no rebate. Looks like I'm never going to get it. 321 Studios recently lost a lawsuit case. For all I know, they may be going into bankruptcy. Do not purchase any products from this company if a hefty rebate makes the offer tempting. 321 Studios does not honor their rebate offers. They'll string you along for months, lie to you about getting it, but never follow through.

I could have bought the software at a lower purchase price at another retailer. I purchased it where I did because of the $50 rebate, which would make the net cost lower than if I'd purchased it at the other retailer. What a mistake! Turns out, I got ripped off. Don't make the same mistake. You're better off not buying 321 Studios products.
