Time Warner Cable contract unable to cancel. - Cable Service

I belong to a homeowners association of 14 units in South Carolina and after having our Time Warner Cable service bill go from $240 per month in 2008 to almost $390 last year we looked into an alternative service provider. We first contacted Time Warner to see if they had anything available and found that they had us listed as a motel and incorporated which we are not. After many frustrating hours of phone conversations and dropped calls we decided to look elsewhere.
We found that with Direct TV we could get twice as many channels and movies for almost $200 a month less then with Time Warner so we decided to switch.

After paying to have the building rewired for Direct TV we called Time Warner to cancel our service, only to be told by Time Warner's Account Executive, New Market Development Michael Peter that we were under a contract with Time Warner for 7 years and couldn't cancel until September.
