ICYE, center-position.com, International Student Exchange, ICE, IE Program, isep-global.org 'A Terrific Opportunity for a Motivated Individual', International Exchange Co-ordinators Wanted - NOW! We just need a resume - oh and your BANK details

Internet & Web

Very similar to previous report:

First e-mail received to personal in box purpotedly from 'no-reply-780@totaljobs.com'. (totaljobs.com is a legitimate UK based on-line employment agency). The messaage was supposedly seeking International Exchange Co-ordinators in my area and requested a resume be sent to: 'Alejandro@center-position.com' and 'we' will contact you as soon as possible.

Follow up e-mail introducing 'Andrew R Thomas' of the 'International Student Exchange Program' (IEProgram@aol.com) telling me that I am suitable for the position of Community Representative starting March 28th - the e-mail was received on March 25th! This e-mail set out the roles and responsibilities of a Community Representative, the hours of work between 0830 and 1630 Mon - Fri with remuneration of $19.20 per hour. Attached was a formal application form which I was requested to complete in MS Word - although the attachemnt was a notepad document.

Finally, on March 29th - the day after I was supposed to start, came the formal offer of 'employment' - as an 'independent contractor' - not an employee of the company - to begin on Monday April 4th. This message was accompanied, of course, by a form to be completed with all bank account details, including both ACH and wire routing numbers, as well as the question regarding daily in-branch withdrawal limits. This was followed up by two further e-mails in poorly constructed grammar just making sure I had understood all the banking information requirements and listed again the same questions posed on the earlier form.

The 'contract' bears the PO Box mail address in Flagstaff, Arizona and the phone # 520-282-4147 between 8.00 am and 1.00 pm MST.

I had been slightly suspicious from the outset - but by now both my wife and I had become really suspicious - so I returned an e-mail asking for a delay in the start date of one week to April 11th - which today (30th) 'Andrew R Thomas' has agreed to. The real research began resulting in both this report and others on other sites.

One other point - in addition to this person having all the info contained within a resume, the formal application calls for four personal references, including their e-mail adresses and phone numbers!
